Volo Has Come A Long Way!

Antique Malls And Gift Malls Open!

Under the threat of being annexed by surrounding towns, Volo businesses and residents decided to try to incorporate it, and were successful. The Village was incorporated in April 1993, and, as a result, is the youngest official village in the state of Illinois.

The incredible 1848 barn, with its huge beams and wooden peg construction, was not quite ready to fulfill its destiny until 1991, when it came to life again as the Volo Antique Mall. At first, about 40 dealers sold their carefully collected treasures. As their success became apparent, two adjoining buildings were built and these now house Antique Malls II and III. Around 300 antique dealers call these malls home today.

In the late 1990’s, the Mercantile Mall was opened and featured new items, including gifts, collectibles and die cast cars. The newest mall, the Straw Market (housed in what used to be the tool shed) showcases home décor and gifts, including the work of some local artists.
